    The first edition of this book was one of first books in the market to reflect the growing interest in crisis management, and specifically the area of business continuity management which is concerned with developing an organizational response to situations where technology breaks down. Since the publication of the first edition in 2002, interest in this subject has been fueled by a number of events including 9/11. The first edition was praised for its rigorous yet accessible approach, and this will be continued in the second edition which provides a well-researched, theoretically robust approach to the topic combined with empirical research in continuity management. Two wholly new chapters have been included on digital resilience and principles of risk management for business continuity. All the existing chapters have been revised and updated with particular attention being paid to the impact on smaller companies. New cases include: South Africa Bank, Lego, Morgan Stanley Dean Witter; small companies impacted by 9/11 and the NYC power outage in August 2003.
