About Maurice Howell

Maurice was born at the latter end of World War II and lived his childhood in Leyton, East London. He passed his 13+ exam and went to McEntee Technical School, leaving at the age of 17 with O levels in English Language and Technical Drawing. He has worked in industry for over 47 years commencing with a mechanical engineering apprenticeship in machine tool manufacture, followed by a two year improving period. Due to ill health he moved to Dorset where he still lives. He is married with two grown up children and one grandchild. In Dorset he worked also as a mechanical engineer in the nuclear reactor industry before starting a small jobbing building company. Following a 4 year period Maurice joined a local electronics company as a sales office clerk and quickly rose through the ranks of the engineering department, taking on appointments including those of engineering administrator, engineering project manager, project manager leading finally to principal project manager in engineering, electronics and transportation development projects. During his working life, Maurice attended college and became competent in production control, stock control and project management working on numerous, varied projects. He was awarded diplomas in all of these areas. Before taking early retirement in 2004 Maurice was asked, in 2000, to lecture at a local college which he reluctantly agreed to do. The result was that he found a new passion and career, being able to pass on his experience and knowledge to others. Maurice also then obtained his Adult Education Teachers' certificate. Since that metamorphosis Maurice has been lecturing and speaking on project management and management subjects all over the country in colleges, private and government organisations, and has received many accolades. For the two years prior to the publication of this book Maurice has formed and is running another limited company. This offers assistance and guidance to organisations that need to make changes to survive, and therefore to instigate and implement projects without the necessary project management resources and competencies. Maurice's company's assistance covers a broad spectrum, from helping establish the requirements and resources, providing the resources and project managing, to successful conclusion. Beyond that, Maurice has recognised that there is a significant need for project management to be fully understood at all levels. Consequently he is starting a project management school across the country to pass on the fundamentals of project management, and to take away the surrounding mystique and mistrust that has built up. In other aspects of his life Maurice has played a major role in the community by serving on the town council, running a major arts festival for many years, and now being a partner in an event management company. Maurice's hobby is music and he has sung in many choirs, plus he has been on tours throughout Europe with a leading choir and orchestra based in the UK. He has also served in the local Minster church choir for many years, has performed on television and has been soloist at many concerts.
